[WorldYouth] Global Money Week for The Year 2016

Dear members and colleagues, Warm greeting from the World Assembly of Youth headquarters in Melaka, Malaysia! We are pleased to inform you that one of the largest annual event of Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI) in collaboration with WAY, Global Money Week, is coming up in just two months and it would be great to have you all involved. The Child and Youth Finance International is an international organisation based in Amsterdam focused on the economic empowerment of young people around the world. Global Money Week (GMW) is a money awareness celebration. The goal is to teach children and youth about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment and becoming an entrepreneur through fun and interactive activities. Every year, entire communities take action to create awareness, challenge out of date financial policies and give young people the tools and inspiration they need to shape their own future. GMW takes place annually, during the second week of March. The events are organised by schools, universities, government ministries, financial institutions, members of the civil society and youth worldwide. We are really happy with the results we had last year: 5.6 million of children and youth, 124 countries and over 3000 activities all around the world, and we hope that year 2016 will have even more young people involved! You can read more about the GMW at http://www.globalmoneyweek.org/Information/about.html  and for more about ideas and planning, kindly refer to http://www.globalmoneyweek.org/Information/toolkit.html. If you and your organisation are interested in taking part in GMW, please contact Kimberly DeRose via email at kimberly@childfinance.org , the Youth Coordinator at Child and Youth Finance International, directly and she would be happy to assist you. Sincerely, Posted by: “WAY Secretariat” <office@way.org.my>

Dear Ms. Helene H. Oord,You have no doubt heard of the catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday. The death toll continues to climb, and damage to the Kathmandu area is beyond measure.

To bring critical relief to Nepalese children and families today, please donate to The Global Fund for Children’s emergency relief fund. This fund will support local organizations that are directly affected by the Nepal earthquake. Anything raised above and beyond their needs will be reserved to support our grassroots partners in similar crises in the future. We are relieved to report that we have heard from all four of our grassroots partners in Kathmandu—they are all right, and they are working hard to get in touch with the children they serve to determine whether they are safe, and what their needs are. The extensive damage means there will undoubtedly be a great need for emergency supplies—food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter. This is the kind of critical support you can provide by donating today. We are already receiving reports of shelter concerns. An orphanage served by our grassroots partner Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal has sustained structural damage, making it unsafe for the children to go inside. This is an issue throughout the valley. Bishnu Bhatta, Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal’s director, said his organization’s office has also been damaged, and he has been staying outside, as are thousands of other survivors. At this moment, Bishnu and the leaders of our other grassroots partners are assessing the needs of the children, their families, and other survivors in the community. We are standing by to disburse your donations as soon as possible to assist them. As you know, our locally based partners in Nepal are on the front lines every day, working with children who were already living under fragile circumstances before the earthquake. A disaster like this means they need our support now more than ever—

please donate today. We are incredibly grateful that we can count on you during this difficult time. Thank you for your generosity—it is a beacon of hope in the wake of such a terrible crisis. With great appreciation, Susan Goodell

Nordic Climate Finance Opportunities
A new report from The Nordic Council of Ministers: Nordic Climate Finance Opportunities
The goal of reaching an ambitious globally binding climate agreement by 2015 is one of the key challenges that the international community needs to address. Issues on how private finance can be linked to public funding structures to ensure sufficient funding for mitigation and adaptation activities, and how technology transfer could work as part of climate finance continue to be key topics in the upcoming climate negotiations.
This report focuses on the current Nordic climate finance landscape, and uses the Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) as a case study, to offer examples of and lessons learned from practical Nordic climate actions that can be used in on-going and future climate negotiations. The report concludes with eight targeted recommendations that highlight key points and lessons learned that can be used for replication and scaling up of future climate actions.

Dear Ms. Helene H. Oord,
We love making connections and introducing our friends to one another. So when Sarita met Jessie and LaDonna from Tea Collection, we were thrilled to hear that they hit it off. Sarita works for Gram Bharati Samiti (GBS), a GFC grassroots partner in Jaipur, India, that Tea visited last November. After spending just one day with her, Jessie and LaDonna understood why Sarita is a hero to the girls she works with—and now she’s a hero to Jessie and LaDonna, too.GBS works in rural and tribal communities, making sure that girls receive an education and learn how to protect their health, their bodies, and their rights. You can read all about how grassroots leaders like Sarita are changing the world in Tea’s latest blog post.
Today is Global Giving Thursday at Tea Collection. Tea will match each donation made at checkout to GFC, and all donations go to support rural girls in India. Giving to GBS also helps support people like Sarita, who devote their entire careers to improving the lives of children in need. So, shop today, and don’t forget to double your impact and donate to the grassroots heroes of Jaipur.

Subject: Announcing a new report on women’s rights and climate justice
In honor of International Women¹s Day, Global Greengrants is released a new report, Climate Justice and Women’s Rights. It spotlights bold, women-led projects to address climate change in communities around the world. You can download the full report at www.WomenAndClimate.org.
From rising seas to super storms, climate change’s effects are here and they’re growing increasingly devastating. Women and people in marginalized communities the hardest hit, but these same people are also coming up with effective and affordable solutions. Only .01% of foundation funding goes to projects that address both climate and women’s rights.
Climate Justice and Women¹s Rights explains why supporting grassroots women is so important if we really want to make a difference on climate change. It is also the first report of its type to offer case studies and practical tips on how to get resources to local people working at the nexus of women’s rights and climate change.
I would like to ask you personally to assist us in publicizing this new report and WomenAndClimate.org. Here are some suggested Facebook posts and tweets. If you are willing to put something on your website, our communications team will be happy to help promote it.
I’m grateful for any assistance you can offer.

[WorldYouth] She Leads Africa Launches Female Entrepreneurs Pitch Competition in West Africa, $10,000 Cash Prize for 1st Place

She Leads Africa has announced the launch of a business pitch competition exclusively for female entrepreneurs, which will give the most promising female entrepreneurs in West Africa a platform to connect to prominent mentors, business funding and new market opportunities.

“Female entrepreneurs are unfortunately missing from the conversation around Africa’s growth story but the continent will not be able to reach its full potential without the full economic participation of women”, says lead organiser Afua Osei. She Leads Africa addresses this challenge head on with a series of programs to help female entrepreneurs gain business fundamentals, connect to an active business network, and increase their access to financing.  The first initiative to increase access to finance is a Pitch Competition in September which will screen applications from across West Africa to identify the top 10 talented female entrepreneurs who have founded or co-founded early stage startups. Finalists will be selected by professionals in the consulting, venture capital, and finance industry based on the strength of the idea, ability to scale, understanding of the market, and quality of the management team. Special consideration will be given to entrepreneurs in the technology sector.    Finalists will be paired with mentors to help advance their businesses and the entrepreneurs will be brought to Lagos to pitch their businesses to a panel of notable business personalities including Hakeem Belo-Osagie Chairman, Etisalat Nigeria; and Ngozi Edozien, CEO InVivo Partners; and Bola Adesola, CEO, Standard Chartered Bank. Finalists will compete for a $10,000 cash first place prize, one-on-one meetings with venture capitalists, legal advice from a premier law firm, free business lines and internet packages for a year, tablets, SME accounting software and more.  The Pitch Competition is supported by sponsors Etisalat, Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, FSDH Capital, Start Smart Ghana and media partners Genevieve Magazine, Tech Cabal, Venture Burn, and Bella Naija. Applications for entrepreneurs open June 23rd and will close July 30th 2014. For more information please visit: www.SheLeadsAfrica.org or email: info (at) sheleadsafrica.org.  About She Leads Africa  She Leads Africa is a social enterprise ensuring that women are part of Africa’s growth story by helping female entrepreneurs gain access to the knowledge, networks, and financing to build and scale strong businesses.  Contact

Subject: Role of multilateral climate funds in mobilising private finance

Dear colleagues, On behalf of ODI, I wanted to share the findings from our recent research on the role of multilateral climate funds (MCF) in mobilising private finance: a review of the CTF, GEF, SREP, GEEREF and PPCR. We have also published the underlying data for the report which includes 93 private finance interventions (PFIs) representing $30 billion in MCF, public and private investment. Across this data set we find that every $1.00 of public finance is aiming to mobilise on average $0.80 of private finance. In addition, we can begin to identify patterns in those PFIs that target high levels of private investment. Any feedback you have on these outputs would be very valuable. Please let us know if you have any comments or questions. From: Laur Fisher <lfi@mit.edu>  Subject: Please share: MIT Climate CoLab seeks ideas to combat climate change – $10,000 Grand Prize To: Laur Fisher <lfi@mit.edu>

Good afternoon,
MIT’s Climate CoLab recently launched 16 contests, seeking a wide variety of ideas and proposals on what can be done to address climate change.
We’d be grateful if you could forward this opportunity to students, researchers, faculty, and other members of your community who may be interested in either submitting a proposal or helping others develop theirs.  I’ve attached a short blurb, a newsletter that lists all the contests, and some sample tweets.  If there’s anything else I can provide that would be helpful, or another person I should contact, please let me know.
Thank you!

Short blurb:
MIT’s Climate CoLab: Your ideas can help combat climate change At MIT’s Climate CoLab you can work with people from all over the world to develop ideas for what we can do about climate change, right now. If you submit one of the winning ideas, you’ll be able to present it before government officials, business executives, NGO leaders and scientists who can help move proposals toward implementation, as well as share it at an MIT conference, where a $10,000 Grand Prize will be awarded. Even if you don’t have new ideas yourself, you can help improve other people’s ideas and support the ones you find most promising. Current contests address low-carbon energy, building efficiency, adaptation, geoengineering, shifting public attitudes and behaviors, and over a dozen other topics.  Entries are due July 20, 2014.
