The objective of this technical workshop is to build and strengthen local government officials’ knowledge and understanding of the Durban Adaptation Charter.

Each day will consist of a number of plenary and parallel interactive sessions around the 10 steps of the Durban Adaptation Charter. Sessions are designed to be highly interactive in order to promote networking and effective sharing of latest information on climate change between top technical experts and city-level officials in Africa.

[workshop] SDGs in the city: Opportunities for the New Urban Agenda

Dear colleagues,
In the context of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in October 2016, the New Urban Agenda (NUA) will be agreed upon. The Cities Alliance Secretariat, members of its management board as well as members and partners of the Joint Work Programme in support of Habitat III met in Brussels on 15 July 2015 to elaborate on the content and context of the New Urban Agenda. The workshop helped clarify expectations on the NUA and identify key points of action.
Participants agreed that the New Urban Agenda should formulate an aspirational vision to guide urban sustainable development, and highlight the challenges and opportunities of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in an urban context. Participants moreover emphasized that the NUA needs to create enabling conditions for cities, including strong mechanisms for implementation, monitoring and review.

Please find below links to the provisional program of the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders Workshop on Governanc e, Transparency and Accountability, to be held from 18-19 June 2015. Please note that due to seating capacity, in-person participation will be limited to 100 people. In addition, we have provided a WebEx link for those that cannot attend in person; the login information is below. Please note that each session has a different login link. Up to 200 individuals can participate via webex.

If you DO NOT possess a UN Grounds Pass, you will need a Special Event Ticket to attend the session. You will receive a confirmation email by 17 June, 2015 indicating security protocols and procedures to attend the event. Governance and Climate Change: An International Law and Policy Workshop in the Context of the UNFCCC COP 20.

The International Workshop on Law, Governance and Climate Change was held in Lima, Peru, on December 6, 2014, as a parallel event during the 20th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL) hosted the workshop, in collaboration with the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), along with numerous other partners. More than 50 scholars, policy makers, experts, practitioners and stakeholders were convened from more than 40 countries to explore emerging human rights, economic and environmental laws, policies and practices linking climate change with sustainable development, and to chart a new international research and education agenda.
